The Canada Agri-Food Pilot Program

The Canada Agri-Food Pilot Program

The Canada Agri-Food Pilot Program is another unique and simplified opportunity for skilled workers in the agri-food sector to obtain permanent resident status in Canada. Applicants need one year of work experience and a CLB 4 language level.

Initially launched in 2020, this program will end in 2025 with the application quota reduced to 1,010 — three times fewer than the previous year.

Despite its temporary nature and strict participation requirements, the program is attractive to those who might otherwise have minimal chances of obtaining permanent residency.

Even with limited spots, the program is filling up rather slowly.

The program covers workers involved in meat processing, livestock farming, greenhouse operations, and crop harvesting. In-demand occupations include butchers, agricultural machinery operators, greenhouse workers, as well as specialized farmers and agrotechnical contractors.

Candidates must have at least one year of full-time work experience in these fields, documented with employer references and tax forms.

Participation also requires meeting other key criteria:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, verified by ECA (Educational Credential Assessment).
  • English or French language proficiency at CLB 4.
  • A full-time permanent job offer.
  • Sufficient settlement funds (if not currently working under a valid work permit).

The program is particularly valuable as it allows foreign workers to bring their families. Since its launch in 2020, over 4,500 workers and their family members have obtained permanent residency, demonstrating the program's effectiveness.

However, it is essential to remember that this is your last chance to apply, as the program will close on May 14, 2025. Those interested should act quickly, as applications can be submitted online (up to 1,000 spots) or through alternative formats (only 10 spots available).
