According to recent reports, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers are denying entry to many Indian and Nigerian visitors at Canadian airports or offering them the option to apply for refugee status. This is a big issue to deny entry to genuine families with approved visas.
🔥 Recent incident:
On July 8, more than 40 Indian visitors arriving on Air Canada Flight No. AC-51 in Montreal were denied entry and were asked to return home. As an alternative, they were offered the option to apply for refugee status. Some of them were visiting Canada for the second time, including elderly citizens who couldn't freely explain the purpose of their visit in English.
📌 One affected individual reported rude treatment by an officer towards his parents, who came for their second visit for 2 months but received permission to stay only for 1 month. Another relative, after 10 hours of humiliation, was also given only a 1-month stay. If the CBSA officer was not convinced, why grant any stay at all? And if it was possible to grant a month's stay, why did it take 10 hours to decide?
📌 Similar incidents are happening with Nigerian visitors. It was reported that a family friend of a Canadian resident was subject to a long interrogation and sent back to Nigeria the next day. In another incident, an affected individual's uncle was sent back because he arrived without his spouse.
📌 It's important to remember that a visa does not guarantee entry into Canada. CBSA officers can deny entry if something seems suspicious.
🤯 However, the offer to apply for refugee status after being denied entry is concerning, especially considering that Canada is already struggling with accommodating refugees and the increasing number of students applying for asylum.
What is happening and why is still unclear; it might be that new recruits at the airports were improperly instructed. 🤷🏼♀️
