Last week, there were demonstrations by immigrants from India in the province of Prince Edward Island.
🔥Their example shows that this is a major problem for most immigrants over the past year. Singh and about 250 other workers organized hunger strikes this spring and met with representatives from the Department of Labor, Skills Development, and Population to challenge changes in immigration rules. These changes, introduced in February, limit the number of immigrants receiving permanent residency, particularly affecting those working in sales and service.
🔥The same changes affected the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Yukon.
‼️One of the protesters, who arrived in Canada in December 2019 and spent about $70,000 on education and living expenses, believes that the government should allow those who have already started the process under the old rules to complete it.
‼️Another immigrant returned to India in March after changes in the rules in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island made obtaining permanent residency impossible. He spent about $90,000 in Canada, hoping to gain permanent resident status.
‼️In recent months, the constant changes in immigration programs in the provinces have caused mass migration within Canada. However, moving often does not solve the issues of obtaining permanent residency, as the rules may change again by the time of application in the new province 🤦♀️.
🤷🏼♀️All of this begins to resemble a rat race and Russian roulette. 🤷🏼♀️
📌Frequent changes in immigration programs create uncertainty and complicate migrants' plans, leading to discontent and protests.
