Went to take the IELTS, passed three sections as required, but scored lower in one… Nerves, frustration, and rebooking the test—SOUND FAMILIAR? BUT REMEMBER, EVERYTHING CHANGED LAST YEAR!

Went to take the IELTS, passed three sections as required, but scored lower in one… Nerves, frustration, and rebooking the test—SOUND FAMILIAR? BUT REMEMBER, EVERYTHING CHANGED LAST YEAR!

Reminder: IELTS (the English language proficiency test) introduced a new service allowing test takers to RETAKE one section of their test – IELTS One Skill Retake. This service enables test takers to retake a single section of their test within 60 days of receiving their original result.

The IELTS exam assesses four key areas essential for studying, working, or living in an English-speaking country: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

To achieve the required score, you NO LONGER need to retake the entire exam—you can simply retake one section.

This new service reduces stress by providing test takers with the opportunity to improve their score in any one of the four skills without redoing the whole test.

And let me repeat: to create a profile in the Express Entry system under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you must score at least 6 in all four categories of the IELTS General exam. If you’ve already worked in Canada for at least a year, the minimum language level is 5 in all categories except for reading, which allows for a 4.

On the other hand, if you fail a category in CELPIP, you can file for a reassessment of an individual section. This often works, and the score for the reassessed section may increase by 1 point.

As always, the higher the score, the better!
