The western provinces in 2025: British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba!

The western provinces in 2025: British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba!

The western provinces in 2025: British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba!

British Columbia initially received 4,000 nominations,

but by the end of the year, they increased that to 6,214. Although they only actually invited 1,110 people... This included 978 professionals with salaries starting at $87 per hour and 132 entrepreneurs. British Columbia used the remaining quota to issue nominations to its graduates and those already on the invitation list from last year, which is quite a bit -5,200 people from last year! They requested 9,000 spots for 2026.

Alberta: The quota issued for 2025 is 6,741.

They invited EVERYONE – 6,741 PEOPLE! Of these, 3,712 nominations were received through the Alberta Opportunity Stream (a program for everyone, including unskilled workers), 1,040 through rural renewal,

  • 294 through tourism and hospitality,
  • 563 through health care, and
  • 1,109 through AB Express Entry (tech pathway, law enforcement, priority sectors construction, agriculture, and aviation).

Currently, 45,622 candidates are in Alberta's candidate pool.

As a reminder, all of them meet the nomination criteria; there simply aren't enough quotas for them, or their scores are too high.

Interesting fact

Alberta is in turmoil throughout 2025. It alternately declares its independence, then quarrels with the federal government, then plans to completely halt immigration, and then, conversely, claims it lacks workers in certain sectors. And its consular fee for reviewing nominations became the most expensive in all of Canada in April 2025 – 1,500 (previously 840).

Manitoba: The allocated quota of the year 2025 is 6,239.

Manitoba exceeded this by 500 places, which will likely be deducted from the 2026 quotas.

September 2025: ONLY candidates with Ukrainian passports were invited, and there was no minimum score threshold – 1,466 people!

And also a very small number of these candidates:

  • Skilled workers with a Manitoba employer – 2,768
  • Graduates of educational institutions in Manitoba – 2,088
  • Invited applicants with relatives from Manitoba – 478 people!
  • Specially invited workers from the remote Winkler region – 71 applicants

We hope things will be much better in 2026!
