Saturday Reading: What Do You Know About Real Problems? Here's some real ones: no  citizenship grant by birth!!

"Mom or Dad?" At some point, you won’t get away with simply defining parent #1 or #2...at least in Ireland

So, Ireland is in an uproar, as they're on the verge of either changing their total approach to biological parenting or becoming one of the countries that does take biology into account

A lawsuit against the government was filed by a mother (formerly a man) who was denied Irish citizenship because, on paper, he was "already a mother" after undergoing transgender therapy and changing gender.

The child was conceived with his (now "her") sperm, and carried to term by his (formerly her) wife, who does not have Irish citizenship.

Now let's summarize (I warn you, I won't be able to figure this out without a bottle, because the article is being written on Saturday, and tomorrow is Sunday, after all)

On paper, we have same-sex couple

One of the spouses has Irish citizenship and was previously a man and froze his sperm

When the girl (formerly a man) met her love (another girl - NOT an Irish citizen), they decided to have a child

They used the wife's sperm (from her previous life) for the child

They had a child

The state does not grant citizenship to the child because two mothers are listed on the birth certificate

According to Irish law, the mother is the one who gave birth, which means the mother is not a citizen and cannot pass citizenship to the child

Whereas the other parent is also listed as the mother, but it is not the one who gave birth, which means, according to a court decision, the "mother, former father" cannot now grant citizenship

The judge's conclusion: If you want to grant citizenship to your child based on biological parentage, register as DAD.

The mother (formerly the father) is outraged and is appealing the decision to the Supreme Court, and we're watching. Have a nice Saturday evening everyone.
