How to Boost Express Entry Points with Foreign Experience While Working in Canada

Today's Express Entry scores are breaking all records and often exceed 500. For many candidates, it becomes almost impossible to reach that score. However, IRCC has an interesting bonus: foreign work experience can be counted even if you are physically living and working in Canada.

How does it work?

  • If you have a full-time job (minimum 30 hours per week) with a Canadian employer and at the same time a full-time job with a foreign employer (remotely), you can get:
  • Points for Canadian experience (up to 80 according to the CRS).
  • AND PLUS up to 50 points for foreign experience in the skill transferability category ‼‼
  • For work experience points, both experiences can be counted simultaneously.

What are the conditions:

  • Both positions must be in the NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 categories.
  • The job must be full-time, and a remote one with a foreign employer.
  • You must have the following documents: contracts, letters from employers, payroll, confirmation of the remote nature of the work and presence in Canada.
  • A valid Canadian work permit.

What to pay attention to:

  • IRCC considers such cases individually.
  • An incorrect choice of NOC or lack of evidence can lead to a refusal.
  • Express Entry profile does not have a separate field for remote work, thus an explanation will have to be given after the Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Conclusion:

If you correctly formalize and confirm remote foreign experience, you can add up to 50 points to the CRS, and for many, this is a real chance to the selection for permanent residence. In conditions of high passing scores, the winner is the one who strategically uses all available OPPORTUNITIES!
