Express Entry: First Draw for Educators — Who Was Invited?

On May 1, IRCC held the first-ever draw under the new Express Entry category — Education. A total of 1,000 candidates were invited with a minimum CRS score of 479.

Who was eligible?
Those with at least 6 months of paid work experience within the last 3 years in one of the eligible education-related occupations.
The subject taught must be part of a secondary education curriculum officially approved by the Ministry of Education in the country where the experience was obtained.

 Invited occupations included:

-  Early childhood educators and assistants
-  Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
-  Elementary school and kindergarten teachers
-  Secondary school teachers
-  Instructors for persons with disabilities

All types of educators could be eligible — from math teachers to physical education instructors and even theology teachers (in countries where religion is a mandatory school subject).
The key requirement is that the subject must be part of the official school curriculum and government-recognized.

This draw marks the first step in implementing the new category, which was initially announced in February 2025. Notably, the draw took place just days after Canada’s recent federal elections.
