- TRP is submitted ONLY ON PAPER.
- TRP does not grant implied status, meaning you are not covered by a work or study status while your application is in process.
- TRP must be submitted in parallel with an application for a work or study permit.
- TRP cannot be easily canceled or switched to a regular work permit. While technically possible, it is extremely difficult in practice.
- TRP is an acknowledgment of inadmissibility for all regular immigration streams, and having one requires you to include a detailed explanation letter every time you renew it or apply for permanent residency programs.
- TRP can only be renewed on paper.
- TRP is granted based on humanitarian factors, making the application process complex and expensive.
- TRP processing takes an average of 6–8 months.
- You cannot apply for TRP in advance while you still have status—your application will be denied!
This is a very complex status. I have uploaded a detailed video on my channels where I explain what to pay attention to, how to protect yourself with TRP status, and discuss the possibility of obtaining permanent residency if you are on TRP.
