Canadian work experience: even being a part-time, don’t miss your opportunity for PR

Many people mistakenly believe that only full-time work is needed in order to immigrate through Express Entry under the Canadian work experience program. But this is not true.

If you work in Canada part-time, then this experience can and should be counted. You just need to count and declare it correctly!

 How does it work?

The Canadian experience program system counts hours, not the type of employment. A full-time job consists of 30 hours per week.

If you worked, let’s say, 15 hours per week for 6 months, this is the equivalent of 3 months full-time. Such experience is legally counted when applying for permanent residence.

Pay attention to this very important point!

If you work more than 30 hours a week, for example 40 or 60, then everything above 30 is not counted. They simply “burn out”. You cannot “compensate” the hours. A maximum of up to 30 hours a week is counted, regardless of the actual time worked.

If you work in Canada part-time in a skilled position, your experience is valuable. Just count the hours properly. Even with part-time employment, you can gain the necessary experience and points, thus successfully apply for the Express Entry and receive an invitation to apply for PR.
