Immigration Minister Marc Miller has announced new pilot programs for caregivers, allowing them to obtain permanent resident status (PR) immediately upon arrival in Canada. These programs will also provide opportunities to work in organizations that offer temporary or partial care to people who are limited in self-care or recovering from injuries or illnesses.
⚠️Key Conditions for Participation:
Candidates interested in working in the home care sector will be able to apply through the new pilot programs if they meet the following criteria:
👉Language proficiency in English or French at CLB level 4 or higher.
👉Education equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma.
👉Recent experience in elderly and child care.
👉A full-time job offer in the care sector.
📌Launch and Prospects
Miller confirmed that the pilot programs are expected to launch by the end of fall 2024 or, at the latest, early 2025.
📌Additional information, including full participation requirements and application instructions, will be available before the program launch.
📌These programs may become permanent or be supplemented with new changes for improvement.
✅As part of overall immigration goals, Canada will accept more than 15,000 caregivers as permanent residents over the next two years, according to IRCC. Current programs, such as the pilot programs for home caregivers and care assistants, already allow eligible caregivers and their families to come to Canada with the intention of becoming permanent residents.
