LMIA points in Express Entry will be removed starting spring 2025. BUT! Not everyone will be affected

The Minister of Immigration has announced that starting in spring 2025, candidates in the Express Entry system will no longer receive additional points for job offers supported by an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment).

Previously, additional LMIA points helped candidates secure invitations to apply for PR. However, the system attracted fraudsters who bought and sold LMIA approvals to increase their chances.

The removal of LMIA points is intended to "make the process fairer and more transparent."

BUT! Certain categories of candidates will still have an advantage and receive points for job offers, even without an LMIA:

·       Workers under the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.

·       Employees transferred to Canada as part of intra-company transfers.

·       Francophones applying for jobs outside Quebec.

What does this mean for candidates?
Candidates should focus on other ways to improve their CRS scores, such as enhancing language skills, gaining education credentials, and increasing work experience.
